Private Enterprises Take Center Stage in National Worker Pioneer Commendation Conference
Beijing hosted the National Worker Pioneer Commendation Conference and celebrated the “May 1” International Labor Day on April 27, 2023. The event recognized individuals and groups for winning the National May 1st Labor Award, National May 1 Labor Medal, and National Worker Pioneer.
The All-China Federation of Trade Unions awarded 207 National May 1 Labor Certificates, 1,035 National May 1 Labor Medals, and 1,044 National Worker Pioneer Awards. Private companies, including Vipshop (China) Co., Ltd., BYD Automobile Co., Ltd., and Hongdou Group Co., Ltd., won the prestigious “National May 1 Labor Award.”
This year, the award program focuses on industries mentioned in the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China report. The manufacturing, transportation, construction, electric power, heat, gas, and water industries made up most of the commendations.
The recognition covered 19 major industries and 15 ethnic groups. The non-public economy received great importance, accounting for 41.5% of certificates, 37.8% of medals, and 39% of pioneers. Jiangsu, an economically developed region, had over half of the certificates, medals, and pioneers awarded to non-public enterprises.
