According to a recent poll of Biden’s Reelection from NBC News, 70% of Americans do not think President Joe Biden should run for reelection, with 51% of Democrats also opposing his bid for a second term. The main reason cited by 48% of those who voted no was Biden’s age, with concerns that he may not be physically and mentally fit for another term in office.
Biden, who is 80 years old, acknowledged the legitimacy of concerns about his age in February, but he urged people to “watch me.” Despite this, 70% of respondents do not believe he should run again, while only 26% support him.
In contrast, 60% of Americans do not believe former President Donald Trump should run for president in 2024, with only 35% favouring his candidacy. The poll also asked respondents which GOP candidate they would vote for if the presidential primary were held today. Trump led the poll with 46% of votes, followed by Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis with 31%.
Reports suggest that Biden will announce his decision to run for reelection on April 25, the fourth anniversary of his 2020 campaign launch. However, his recent decline in popularity and the concerns over his age may make his reelection campaign an uphill battle.
